Goodbye 2011, Hello 2012

I spent the cross over from 2011 to 2012 at home with my family having a BBQ. Cousins came over and we had loads of fun eating. Here's my adorable little 9 month old niece!

The little one likes chew on paper and is fascinated by mobile phones!

We ended the night playing sparklers that Uncle Daniel brought along!

Leaving on a jet plane

I recently took a 6am flight to Macau. Given a choice, I really wouldn't want to catch a flight at this hour. Had to leave for the airport at 4am. I usually sleep really late and the morning I was supposed to leave, I ended chatting with my brother till 4am then left for the airport. Didn't sleep at all. To top it off, I don't sleep well on flights. Ended up arriving in Macau very very very very sleep deprived.

The only good thing about catching a flight at this time, was that I managed to watch an amazing sunrise! It was raining when I boarded the plane. Luckily there wasn't much turbulence.

I bought a packet of Animal crackers as my on board flight. Brought a book on board as well just in case I couldn't sleep. I really couldn't sleep in the end and ended up making my animal crackers pose of pictures and taking pictures of the amazing sunrise :)

Here are pictures of the amazing sunrise and the obligatory pictures of clouds everyone takes. The clouds outside the plane on the day of my flight looked super dense. It looked like a snow scape instead of clouds!

This little light of mine

This cute little thing was purchase from Daiso, the $2 store. Sadly, after moving houses, I'm not really too sure where it went. It's a pretty little thing to have in your room, hypnotic to look at and a great subject to photograph as the color changes every few seconds.

Golden Mile Complex, my cheap thrill

I live within walking distance to Golden Mile Complex, haven of all things Thai. I love going there for Thai food. Unknown to many, there is a good sized supermarket that sells lots of Thai goodies! It's situated on the 2nd level of Golden Mile Complex. Things here aren't exactly cheap. But if you're looking for something Thai  that's usually not sold at other supermarkets, this is the place to go to. Pictures taken with my blackberry!

Lots and lots of Thai instant noodles!
If you love Thai iced milk tea, there is the instant version sold here.
Beware though, it's really really sweet.

Snacks galore!
Thai Curry Pastes
Love the colors of these retro soft drink bottles
DIY Tom Yum Soup packet
I totally love these chilli flakes. I put them almost any food I consume!
Dried serpent head? Not sure what this is!
Honey + Milk. I bought this as I love honey and I love milk.
Too cloyingly sweet though. Maybe I should try put honey into fresh milk!
Another product I always buy is this.... Pretz! This flavor is not readily found elsewhere!
My shopping basket!

Thye Hong Casual Cafe Steamboat Hotpot

Met my dear friend Kristen for dinner yesterday. We initially were thinking of finding a place inside of Bugis Junction for dinner. It was raining yesterday and we decided it was perfect to go have steamboat!

We went over Liang Seah Street to look for a place to have steamboat! Where else, haha. I usually eat steamboat at Xian De Lai 鲜得来or to the one facing Shaw Towers. Kristen said she usually has steamboat at this place called Thye Hong, so I decided to give this place a try! It was $17 nett for dinner, inclusive of drinks (lime juice/barley) and fruits. Pretty good price I would say. We were there pretty early, about 6.30pm and the place was still quite empty. By 7.30pm, most of the tables had been occupied by diners.  Sorry if the pictures are a little subpar as they were taken by my blackberry.

Food's pretty neatly laid out. Mostly standard steamboat fare.
Condiments. My combo is chilli padi + chopped garlic + soya sauce.
So what's your steamboat secret sauce combo?
Do you see instant noodles? Does anyone really eat that?
Looking at the pictures, I think I didn't eat a wide variety of stuff.
I just kept taking the same items over and over.
Like the cooked food below. I didn't even try.
I like to eat cooked dishes with rice.
And when I go for steamboats, no rice for me please!
I load up on seafood, beef and golden mushrooms.
And that's about it. Haha.
I heard the staff tell another customer that this was black pepper chicken.
This is erm... fried chicken?
I'm guessing tofu with dried chilli for this!
Scallops! I did not take these. WHY???
Crabs. Oh yeah. I had these. They're the small type but they were fresh.
This were the first items I grabbed. The crab sticks were like faux snow crab.
Much nicer that the usual crab sticks. I made Kristen try some and she liked it!
The fruit tray. Erm, I didn't eat any fruits also. Oops.

Just in case you are thinking of trying this place out, the address is 32 Liang Seah Street. For 17 bucks, it was a pretty decent meal. And no need to spend extra money on drinks too. Maybe I should go back again soon!
